Human beings have fundamentally parallel realities -- an Inner and an Outer, a Lower and a Higher, and a Spiritual and a Secular, to name but three. In situations where we experience any two lives as differing and possibly even unrelated (eg. Ï would/could NEVER be like that!"), Illusions are formed at the interface.
Illusion is a distortion of the relationship between connected realities. We form distorted illusions of reality when we remove certain qualities from one reality and superimpose them onto another reality and the people who live there.
For example, one element of my Inner self-image is Responsibility. To the extent that I reject the fact that I am also capable of Irresponsibility, I will pin that "Irresponsible" label on certain behaviour and people in my Outer life. The result is a twofold illusion -- a) that I am wholly responsible under all circumstances (an illusion not supported by the facts); and b) that the other behaviour or person is wholly Irresponsible in all circumstances (also not supportable by an objective observer.) The same opportunities for Illusion occur when any conflict happens between our Baser and Higher levels of consciousness, and between our Divine and our Secular natures.
Where there is no distortion between realities, where both realities mirror each other, Illusion ceases to exist. We see things in both realms as they are. In practice, of course, none of us is ever fully at one extreme or the other; we constantly move around on a sliding scale of "more"and "less". In the grey areas where we are out of balance, we are prone to delusion.
I just thought you'd like to know.
The physical world is just as true and real as the inner world. Reality at a low level of consciousness is just as vivid as reality on the higher planes. Our Divine and our Human natures are equally as valid. But we often experience them as NOT. We are prone, by default, to give more weight to one side than the other. In which direction the balance tips -- Inner or Outer, Lower or Higher, Sacred or Secular -- depends on our level of Awareness, and that is by no means constant either..
Either way, any imbalance leads to Distortion and Illusion. Neither the basest atheist nor the rarest ascetic can see the whole of reality as it is. Both extremes are deluded. All positionality involves self-delusion.
Illusion disappears at the mid-point, where each side of a continuum perfectly reflects the other.
Wisdom is always at the point of balance where everything is This AND That. When you reach that point, you are in for a surprise. When Illusion no longer exists, life is also "neither This NOR That". But don't worry about that now. When that moment comes, you will either laugh or go "Uh.........", then fall into silence..
For now, find your balance.
It's a bit like learning to walk. The notion of "failure"is just another illusion. Until you get "balance", you're likely to fall a few times. If you buy into the illusion of "failure", you'll give up and never learn to walk. If, on the other hand, you see every stumble as a learning experience, you're more likely to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, make an internal adjustment, and have another go until you "get it". It's part of the process of learning. Don't get bent out of shape by apparent setbacks. When you finally get balance, you'll have it for life, no matter how wobbly things get from time to time.
Just like riding a bike.
