HANKERING

If you find yourself hankering after something,
There's a better-than-even chance
That there's something in there
That you once had
(Otherwise you wouldn't know it well enough to hanker for it)
And that you failed to experience while you had it.

If you had been total in that moment when it was available to you,
If you had been present, available, transparent and utterly engaged with it,
Unfettered by resistances or expectations of "how it should be",
The experience would have completed itself there and then
And you would no longer be hankering
After what is "unfinished business".

Look, I know how this feels --
To be in a situation, but preoccupied with something else;
Then when I'm later somewhere else,
To be wishing I was back where I wasn't while I was there.....
If you get what I mean.

Learn from this experience.
Be wherever you are.
Be total in this place, in this moment.
If hankering is what you've got,
Enter it.
Be with the idea of whatever you're hankering for and, more importantly,
Be totally immersed in your hankering.itself.
Smell it, taste it, look into it, feel into it with all your senses.

Instead of doing what you've always done --
Which was looking for satisfaction from something external in order to assuage the hankering,
Dive into the hankering itself and deeply drink
Until you are fully sated with your hankering.
Be in the heart,
In the moment,
Experiencing your longing and hunger
For its own sake.

When we're hankering,
We're looking for something we think we haven't got.......
I make myself feel "haven't-got-it" in order to get it."
Where's the juice in that?!
There must be something in it, we all do it --
We withhold things from ourselves in order to get them;
How is that supposed to work?
Serious question worth pondering for yourself.
(Human beings aren't wrong, but we are capable of stunning stupidity!)

If you want to experience satisfaction,
Be satisfied with what you've already got!
If hankering is what you've got,
Be glad you still hanker for whatever it is.
(One day, you'll no longer be able to.)
If the truth were to be known,
What you're hankering FOR
Is not what you really want anyway;
If you got it,
You still wouldn't be satisfied.
You are never going to find satisfaction
By coming from dissatisfaction.

Here's the punchline.....
If you stay with hankering for long enough,
You'll discover the difference between hankering and Pure Desire,
And you'll stumble across Who-You-Are.
