BECOMING PRESENT-ABLE

Are you having trouble coming to the present?
Here's one way --

Notice something.
(Anything, it doesn't matter what.
It's the Noticing that matters,
Not what it noticed.)
With your awareness turned on......
Look at something;
Smell something;
Touch something;
Taste something.
That moment of pure being-with
Before your mind kicked in with a voice-over commentary --
That moment when your mind wasn't there --
That was it.
That was your present.
Don't now go back looking for it,
It has gone.
Notice, instead, what you've got now.
If it's voice-over, notice that.
And notice again,
And notice again,
And notice again....
Start stringing together moments of noticing.
Practice
Until it becomes a habit,
Replacing the present habit of being absent-minded.
