Oh the lengths to which we will go
To avoid discomfort:
How we suffer, just to shirk the chafing
Of transformation!
In any crisis
We'll try to dodge the anguish of vulnerability.
Sometimes we hide away,
Hoping that either it will pass
Or a Saviour will ride by
And slay the dragon at the mouth of our self-imposed prison.
Sometimes we'll frontally attack and find fault
With the situation
And those whom we decide are to blame for it.
But we'll keep the cave-mouth close at our back,
Ready to beat a hasty retreat,
Just in case.
We'll trot out every tired old game
In an effort to manipulate and control
The circumstances
And "Thems that are doing it to me".
We'll turn ourselves inside out rather than have this feeling.
All that is needed is Acceptance -- unconditional,
And Re-Balancing along the way.
The suffering of Avoidance is forever
Because what we're jibing around
Keeps showing up;
Hadn't you noticed?
The minute we surrender,
Everything changes,
And the discomfort of Transition soon passes.
But we do have to first unconditionally surrender --
Not as a negotiation,
But as a complete let-go;
Again and again, if need be;
That's usually the sticking-point.
